A REPORT ON A THREE DAY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR THE FIRST YEAR PARA-MEDICAL STUDENTS OF PAAVAI INSTITUTIONS 2018-19

The Faculty Development Department organized a three day orientation programme for the first year Para-medical students of Paavai Institutions. The orientation programme was held on 29.10.2018, 30.10.2018 & 10.11.2018 at Thirumandiram Hall. The Inauguration of the orientation programme was held, at ‘Thirumandiram Hall’ on 29.10.2018, wherein Dr.Hepsi Rachel Chella Rani, Principal, Paavai College of Nursing and Research, welcomed the gathering. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, in his inaugural address listed out the benefits of para- medical stream. He further stated about the scope and future of Para-medical courses. He highlighted the Biocon company which is the established commercial industry which makes a profit in millions. He also stressed the duties and the responsibilities of a pharmacist, nurse and technician in cardiology, etc. At last, he gave a preview of the orientation programme with resource persons along with their titles. Finally, he concluded that this orientation programme would be a foundation from which the respective course can be acquired and students can complete the course successfully and be placed in a reputed company or to become an entrepreneur. At the end of the inauguration, Mr.Arun, A.P, Paavai college of Pharmacy and Research, read out the objectives of the programme. The main objective is to make the students to acquaint with the institutional practices and culture by preparing them for the transition from school to professional education. The resource persons were Shri CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, Prof.R.Chenniappan, Dean English, Dr.A.S.Kandasamy, Dean ECE, Dr.R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean FDD, Dr.K.Selvi, Dean Academics, Dr.Hepsi Rachel Chella Rani, Principal, PCNR, Dr.M.Radhakrishnan, Principal, PCPR, Mr.Loganathan, Head, Audio-visual Dept, Mrs.Devipriya, A.P, PCNR, Mr.Nagarajan, A.P, PCNR, Mr.Arun, A.P, PCPR, Mr.Sudhakar, A.P, PCPR and Mrs.K.Subashini, FDD addressed the students on various topics. After the inauguration, the students were made to assemble in Thirumandiram Hall for technical sessions. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, spoke on the History of Paavai and Goal setting. He explained the vision, mission and his strong determination to establish Paavai as a guiding torch to the youth folk. He further focused on the steps for goal setting and methods to translate one’s goal into a reality. In this session, the life incidents of various individuals were cited. Dr.K.Selvi, Dean Academics, focussed on Paavai Culture, and the importance of adhering to the best practices in one’s life. Dr.A.S.Kandasamy, Dean ECE, highlighted the importance of time, basics of the subjects, category of students and vocabulary. He elaborated the role of the students and the learning process. He narrated various incidents from his life by which he got the efficacy of life. At last he made students realize the worthiness of their elders. Prof.Chenniappan, Dean English emphasized the significance of learning English, developing vocabulary, barriers to learn English and how to master English language. Dr.R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean FDD, spoke on ‘Ethics and Values’, wherein she accentuated the values to be adopted throughout one’s life. She conducted a debate to draw the attention of the students to exemplify the value system of our culture. She made the students realize the importance and need to cultivate values in our life. The frame for the orientation Programme included not only the subjects but also life skills and personality development sessions too. Mr.Loganathan, Head, Audio-visual dept, took an exclusive session on first aid and life skills through various videos and short films. He told the students that the ability to network and empathize in times of emergency, distress or calamity can help build the resolutions rather than resentment. Mr.Loganathan encouraged the students to give importance to filial duties and family culture. Mrs.K.Subashini, FDD dealt with the title, ‘Time Management’. She focussed on the significance of time, schedule, smart work, punctuality and how to be an efficient and successful person. Dr.Hepsi Rachel Chella Rani, Principal, PCNR, talked on the topic, ‘Career Development’. She pointed out the different avenues and scope of nursing course. She further stressed the consequence of being a skilled nurse and various opportunities in Government sectors, hospitals, MNC’s industries in India and abroad. The topic, ‘Examination system’ was handled by Mr.Nagaraj, AP, PCNR, and he explained about the pattern of examination, scheme of Evaluation and criteria for becoming a nurse. Mrs.Devipriya, A.P, talked on, ‘How to approach nursing subjects’, and she gave different methods, and techniques to study nursing subjects. Dr.Radhakrishnan, Principal, PCPR, spoke on, ‘Examination system’ for Pharmacy students. In this session, he spotlighted the significance of examination system, Internal and End semester pattern, procedure to get through in the exams, different ways to study and memory techniques. ‘Career Development’ was taken by Mr.Sudhakar, AP, PCPR, in which, he spoke above the different sectors of placement in Government and non-Government organizations. Mr.Arun, AP, PCPR, emphasized the various approaches to learn Pharmacy and also being an efficient pharmacist. Each resource person elaborated the titles and had an interactive session with the students. Around eleven sessions had been handled in those three days. The activity like ‘Rally’ was conducted to make the Para-medical students to be aware of being good pharmacists, nurses and technicians. The programme thus, catered to the needs of the students and the Faculty Development Department expressed its willingness to be with them as and when required. The valedictory function was held on 10.11.2018 at Thirumandiram Hall by 03.00 p.m. All the students recorded their feedback. Smt. Mangai Natarajan, the correspondent felicitated the gathering. She congratulated the students for expressing their desire to come up in life. The Chairman delivered his valedictory address in which, once again, he reiterated that a well-established goal is sure to succeed and Paavai bears testimony to it. After the National Anthem the programme came to an end.
