Orientation Program

A three day Orientation Programme for D.Pharm Students was organized by Paavai college of Pharmacy and Research between 21.08.2017 – 23.08.2017 at Thirumandhiram Hall. The programme was presided over by our respected chairman sir Shri.CA.N.V.NATARAJAN.

The programme was inaugurated with the prayer song by Diploma students, followed by traditional lighting of Kuthu Vilakku. The welcome address was given by Dr.K.Selvi – Dean – Academics, PEC. Then the presidential address was delivered by our respected chairman sir.

In his presidential address chairman sir have highlighted the needs for the orientation programme and advised the student to utilize the programme effectively for their academic as well as personal career. Also sir has shared some of his experience about effective learning, discipline, personal and public hygiene. Sir also has mentioned the need of communication skill development for future prospers with an inspiring real living example from articles.

Followed by the presidential address the objective of the programme was highlighted by Dr.R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean – FDD, PEC.

At the end of the inauguration session our respected chairman sir have asked the teaching faculties of PCPR to train up the students to sing Paavai’s prayer song and sir also mentioned to train both the genders (boys and girls) for singing.

The first technical session was commenced with the presentation of Dr.A.S.Kandasamy, Dean-ECE, PEC, on the topic “Fundamentals of Subjects”, in which sir have highlighted the importance of learning the basics of subjects, and easy ways of understanding them. He also explained the needs of changing the education system with the updated knowledge. Also he has given ideas of systematic learning with examples categories of students according to efficiency of learning. Sir has also mentioned the importance of presence of mind and application of knowledge learned.

The session was continued with the topic “How to approach pharmacy and subjects” by Arun NT, Assistant Professor, PCPR. He has started the presentation with the importance of pharmacy, pharmacist, key skills needed for an ideal pharmacist and roles of pharmacist for the beneficiary of the community. Also he have mentioned the importance of pharmacy as heart of community and explained the current splendid scenario of pharmacy in India with statistical data. He also has detailed the important subjects and ways of learning them in pharmacy. He has ended up his presentation with the motivational speech of Dr.A.P.J Abdul kalam and his quotes.

The third presentation was by Mrs.C.Jayalakshmi, Dean-Counseling, PEC on the topic “Transition from School to College”. She has started the presentation with the challenges student face during the transition from school life to college. Also she highlighted the ways to overcome these challenges and how to adapt into Paavai culture with perseverance disciplines and dedication. She also detailed the effective use and effects due to misuse of modern gadgets and technologies. She had advised the students about adolescence emotions and the ways to face them in a right way. She has concluded the session with distinct ways to face college situations for a better future.

The fourth presentation was by Dr.K.Selvi, Dean-Academics PEC on the topic “Paavai culture”. In the presentation madam had given introduction about the vision and mission of Paavai, growth history of Paavai. She also have mentioned paavai’s mantra and explained the ways to achieve it. Then she continued with the importance of maintaining hygiene for the personal and institutional welfare. Also she detailed the ways students should approach the teachers, student – student approach, paavai’s according to paavai’s rules and regulations. Finally, she concluded the session with the codes and ethics of Paavai.

Second day (22.08.2017)

The first presentation of second day started with Mrs.K.Subhashini Associate professor FDD, on the topic “Time management”. The session started with some energizers. She highlighted importance of time management with the definition, setting the goals, and the ways to achieve them. The session was continued with student interaction about their goals and she had given the priority table of planning tools and defects of procrastination. She also advised the students to make a schedule, planner, to do list and the ways to assess them periodically with priority. She also detailed about students about how to face the unplanned challenges with questionnaires related to them.

The second presentation was by Dr.R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean – FDD, PEC on the topic “Communication Skills”. She had started the presentation with definitions of unique and being like everybody else. She had given a mantra and advised the students to remember it every day effectively. (I want to be unique; I don’t want to be like everybody else). She had detailed the need of effective communication skills and taught the ways of learning difficult English words to students. She had emphasized the four fundamentals aspects of communication such as listen, speak, read and write. She have concluded the session with small tasks containing memorizers, tongue twisting sentences with active participation of students.

The final presentation of second day was given by Mr.C.Loganathan, HOD-A.V, Paavai Institutions on the topic, “Life Skills”. He had started the presentation with a brief introduction about difference between knowledge and skills. Then he continued with the topics like Pollution-reasons & solution to overcome it, Modern lifestyle and defects, Healthy Food, Blood Donation and importance, Family relationship nowadays and Immunity and Immunization. Then he detailed about the needs of first aid, methods to do and methods not to do. He also explained about the first aid treatments for Burns, Poison consumption , Snake bite, Bone fracture, Chocking, Bleeding Dislocation of bones, open wounds, insect bite, Nasal bleeding, Animal bites, Drowning, Epilepsy, wheezing and fainting. He has presented relevant video

clippings for all the first aid treatments for easy understanding. He also advised the students to make First Aid Box by themselves to know and get interest towards first aid treatment. He has concluded the session by advising the students to follow the first aid treatment with care.

Third Day (23.08.2017)

The first presentation on third day was by Dr.R.P.Ezhilmuthu, Principal-PCPR, on the topic “Examination System”. He had started the presentation with a brief introduction about goal setting and how to achieve success. Then he continued with the details of examination authority of Diploma- DME, subjects for diploma in first and second year. He also conveyed the information about internal examination, method of evaluation, attendance requirements, question paper pattern, examination tips, passing criteria and result analysis. He has concluded the session with a small motivating video called ALL THE BEST for exams.

The second presentation was made by Mr.R.Sivakumar, Vice Principal, PCPR, on the topic “Importance of Practical classes”. He has started the session with the introduction about pharmacy, pharmacy subjects, drugs and various roles of pharmacist. Then he continued with details about the importance of practical classes, do’s and don’ts in laboratory. Further he continued with subjects and the practical experiments related with it. Also he have detailed about need of SOP’s, importance of practical knowledge in understanding the subjects of pharmacy and how to learn effectively.

The final presentation on the third day was given by Mrs.N.V.Britya, Assistant Professor- PCPR on the topic “Career development in pharmacy”. The session was started with the description about career, various stages of career in one’s life. Then she has continued with some information about the achievers in the field of pharmacy and their contribution to the field of pharmacy. Also she explained about the future career opportunities including job and higher studies after completion of diploma. She also had given information about the method of preparation for competitive exams like GPAT, GRE, and TOEFL. The session was ended up with the pharmacy anthem.

At the end of the final session Dr.R.Kasthuri Bai, Dean – FDD, PEC had interacted with the students and given the easy ways to study the spelling of English words. Also she presented a video with explanation about vowels, syllable and consonants for easy understanding and learning of difficult words. She also had given some small tasks to students like tongue twisters, sentence formations and conversation methods.

She had also given a copy of simple sentence formation prepared by Dr.R.Chenniyappan, HOD-English Department-PEC, for the conversations between students, between students and teachers, between students and principal to the Principal, PCPR and asked the students to make use of it by practicing it daily.

Followed by that Mrs.K.Subhashini Associate professor FDD, had asked the students to prepare “About Me” chart in pictorial representation with the details of their name, goals, parents and family details, a sentence about them and

After that Mr. Arun NT, Assistant Professor, PCPR had given a small speech about the former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and presented students a dedicational video for Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Finally the session was ended up with vote of thanks proposed by Mrs.N.V.Britya, Assistant Professor- PCPR.
